Welcome

I am Marion Greene and I seek your support as I run for State Representative for District 60A.

For eleven years Margaret Anderson Kelliher has provided exemplary service to our district and strong leadership at the Capitol. Now she is running for Governor. I put myself forward because she has indicated that she will not be seeking our district’s endorsement for State Representative.

I am a thoughtful and energetic progressive who believes that good government makes a positive difference in all our lives by protecting and investing in shared resources, and providing a safety net to those with fewer resources. Minnesota is a state that has long represented that tradition. Together with a new governor I’d like to be part of the team that furthers that vision. My priorities will include:

Protecting the quality of Minnesota’s education system by investing in our schools, including providing school districts with all their funding in the current fiscal year.

Advocating for Minneapolis, working with legislators across geographic and party lines to ensure that statewide investment in our center city is understood to benefit the entirety of Minnesota.

Ensuring healthcare for the uninsured by restoring funding to General Assistance Medical Care and supporting the Minnesota Health Reform Initiative of 2008.

None of these goals will be achieved without critical decision-making regarding the state budget, and a guarantee that any increase in investment is done judiciously.

My background provides the skills and perspectives to tackle these challenges effectively. I grew up outside the United States (my parents served in the U.S. Foreign Service) and that experience indelibly shaped my dedication to community and diversity. I began my career in Washington DC as a grassroots organizer. I now work as a health policy analyst for St. Jude Medical, with a focus on Medicare. My volunteer work includes helping out at the Neighborhood Involvement Program’s evening clinic.

I am dedicated to the DFL. I have served as a leader in our Senate district DFL for nine years, including a term as associate chair. In 2006 it was my honor to serve as Margaret Anderson Kelliher’s campaign manager.

I hope to continue this tradition of service to cause, community and the DFL as your State Representative. My husband, Bart Cannon, grew up in this neighborhood; with its beautiful lakes, enriching diversity, and spirit of community involvement, I can’t imagine a better place to call home. I hope you’ll join me in making Minneapolis, and Minnesota, even better.

I look forward to talking with you about my campaign, and to winning your support.
